Musical Director Wendy whips them all into shape!

On Monday evening, senior sound engineer/producer Tom and assistant sound engineer James made their way to the Belmont Centre in Uckfield for a mobile recording session – this time involving a 92-member choir!

Formed in 2007, the Uckfield Singers Community Choir (to give them their full title) are a not-for-profit choir comprising members of all ages and abilities. They often put on choral concerts in order to raise funds for charities (both locally and nationally), and they also run a series of workshops.

Setting up for the session ahead

The choir hold their weekly rehearsal on Monday evenings, and so this was the ideal time for Tom & James to pop up – given that the purpose of the recording session was to capture the essence of their live performance. This particular Monday was especially ideal, as the Uckfield Singers had just performed at their Summer Concert (as recently as last Saturday) – so they were doubly “warmed up”!

Tom & James set up a series of microphones in and around the choir, in order to capture their live sound at its very best – incidentally, the Belmont Centre’s M-shaped ceiling provided the fantastic acoustic conditions needed for the recording.

The Uckfield Singers chose to record an extensive (and impressively varied) set of songs – ranging from Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ to the traditional South African song ‘Freedom’, by way of Irving Berlin’s ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business’ and Arthur Hamilton’s ‘Cry Me a River’.

Needless to say the Uckfield Singers’ recording session was a great success, and all that’s left to do for them is burn & print the 150 CDs that they have now ordered from us!
